16.
Perform fluorescent penetrant and magnetic particle inspections as described in
Chapter 9, “Overhaul Inspection and Repair” in TCM Overhaul Manual (OH-24).
17.
Perform a dimensional inspection on the cylinder, the piston, and components using
the Cylinder Service Limits in Section 10-8.5.
18.
When the cylinder is removed, install the spark plugs and inspect the cylinder for
static leaks by filling the inverted cylinder bore with nonflammable solvent and then
check for leaks at the static seal areas.
19.
Refer to instructions in Chapters 9 of the Overhaul Manual (OH-24) for cylinder
inspection and repair criteria. Use the Service Limits Inspection criteria rather than
Appendix D of the Overhaul Manual.
20.
Assemble cylinders that conform to inspection criteria in Section 10-8.5 using
instructions in Section 10-8.7, “IOF-550-B & C Engine Cylinder Installation.”
10-8.3. IOF-550-N, P & R Valve Train Removal
WARNING
If power is not disconnected, a loose or broken wire could
allow the engine to start and the propeller to rotate. Do not
allow anyone to stand within the arc of the propeller.
Procedure
1.
Disconnect engine electrical power and turn Master Power Switch and Ignition
Switch to the OFF positions.
2.
Remove cowling and any airframe supplied accessories in accordance with the
airframe manufacturer's instructions.
3.
Disconnect the battery in accordance with the airframe manufacturer's instructions.
4.
Disconnect all spark plug leads from the cylinder(s) to be removed.
5.
Place a tag on the propeller with the warning "DO NOT TURN PROPELLER."
6.
Position the crankshaft so the piston is at top dead center and both intake and exhaust
valves of the rocker arms to be removed are closed.
7.
Remove the screws (Figure 10-61) (32), lock washers (31), and washers (30) and the
rocker covers (29) from the cylinder; discard the lock washers (31).
8.
Remove and discard the rocker cover gaskets (28).
9.
Position the crankshaft so the piston is at top dead center and both intake and exhaust
valves of the cylinder to be removed are closed.
10.
Bend the tab washers (26) down and remove the screws (27), tab washers (26) and
retainers (25). Discard the tab washers (26).
11.
Remove the rocker arms (20), rocker shafts (24), thrust washers (23), and retainers
(25) from the cylinder.
12.
Inspect the valve rocker shafts (24), thrust washers (23), and retainers (25).
13.
Withdraw the push rods (40) from the pushrod housing (35).
