IOF-550 Permold Series Engine Maintenance Manual
7-37
1 April 2007
1.
Perform and FADEC Level I Diagnostics in conjunction with the Engine Operational
Check. Monitor the “View Raw Data Page” for a period not less then five minutes
after the engine has reached normal operating parameters (See “Engine Specifications
and Operating Limits” in Chapter 2) to verify the FADEC sensor set and Electronic
Control Units are operating within tolerance.
2.
Visually inspect the ignition leads for chafing, deterioration and insulation
breakdown. Verify the ignition leads are securely fastened to the ECU spark towers.
Replace worn or frayed ignition wires.
WARNING
Failure to maintain the spark plugs and ignition leads may
cause engine damage or failure.
3.
Remove spark plugs from each cylinder head. Clean and inspect the spark plugs
according to “Ignition System Maintenance” in Chapter 9 of this manual. Rotate
spark plugs from original locations during installation.
7-3.13. FADEC Dedicated Backup Battery Inspection
Replace the FADEC System backup battery used as a secondary power source:
•
12 calendar months after the date of installation
•
If the backup battery is used for more than one (1) hour (emergency operations)
•
If the backup battery is severely depleted
•
If the FADEC system indicates a secondary power source failure for more than 5
minutes
NOTE: The backup battery is an airframe component. Refer to the
aircraft maintenance manual for replacement instructions.
Procedure
1.
Check the log book maintenance records for the backup battery installation date. If
the elapsed time is greater than 12 months, replace the battery according to airframe
manufacturer’s instructions.
2.
Disconnect the positive and negative battery terminals on the backup battery.
3.
Measure the backup battery voltage. If the voltage is less than 10 volts, replace the
battery according to airframe manufacturer’s instructions.
7-3.14. Fuel System Inspection
Engine operation and cooling are directly related to the correct fuel-air ratio. Improper
fuel settings can affect engine performance in terms of both power and throttle response.
