O-200-D & X Series Engine Installation and Operation Manual
2-7
3 January 2017
Engine Description
2-2.6.2. Oil Flow and Heat Rejection
The aircraft manufacturer is responsible for ensuring that engine oil temperatures do not
exceed specifications. If an oil cooler is required, the aircraft manufacturer must ensure
the oil cooler maintains the oil temperature within the limits detailed in Section 2-4 of the
“Engine Specifications” Section in any operating mode.
2-2.6.3. Oil Level Gauge
An oil gauge rod is supplied with the engine. Calibration shall be checked on the aircraft
installation by the installer or aircraft manufacturer. The oil gauge markings should
indicate five quarts of oil contained in the sump while the aircraft is in a stable, ground
level attitude, with all operating oil fully drained into the sump.
For conventional gear installations, CM recommends the aircraft manufacturer verify oil
gauge rod readings versus measured oil quantity at proposed installed engine ground
attitude (±1°) and supplement the aircraft AFM/POH with specific oil gauge rod level
correction data. For example, an aircraft with an eight degree nose up ground attitude, oil
levels in the POH should be increased by 0.5 quarts.
2-2.6.4. Oil Filter
The O-200-D & X series engines are fitted with a spin-on, full-flow, oil filter with integral
bypass as standard equipment. Replacement filters must meet original oil filter
specifications.
2-2.6.5. Oil Cooler Adapter (Optional)
The O-200-D & X series engines are not supplied with an oil cooler. If an oil cooler is
required, an optional oil cooler adapter is available which is attached by three case studs
over the pad behind the #2 cylinder.
2-2.7. Electrical System
2-2.7.1. Starter
The engine is supplied with a Skytec C12ST2/S 12-volt starter as standard equipment. The
installer must provide the starter control system, including the contactor.
2-2.7.2. Alternator
CAUTION: The alternator will require a bonding strap to maintain
ground potential with the aircraft electrical system.
An optional gear-driven, 14 volt, 50 ampere alternator, which features internal voltage
regulation, is available. Connections to the alternator control and indicator circuits are
through customer-supplied terminals attached to individual wires of a quick disconnect
