XLT415 SUBWOOFER
INSTRUCTIONS
Thank you for purchasing the XLT415.
To achieve maximum performance from your subwoofer, please read these brief instructions.
MOVING AND CARRYING THE XLT415
The XLT415 subwoofer has four all steel bar handles recessed into the sides of the enclosure allowing it to
be carried in a straight-forward manner by two or more people.
The XLT415 subwoofer also has provisions for adding the optional CASTERS415 kit of four accessory casters
on the back of the enclosure. Once installed, the enclosure may be tilted back onto the casters by lifting
from the front. Once resting on the casters one person can easily move it across relatively smooth surfaces.
CAUTION:
When using the casters, be careful that the enclosure does not slip as the first of the casters contact
the floor. Two people should tilt the enclosure onto its back, with one behind to prevent the
enclosure from slipping.
WARNING:
The XLT415 weighs approximately 181 lbs. (82 kg) and without adequate lifting power, serious
personal injury could result. It is recommended that at least two or more people be used to lift or
carry the XLT415 with one or more on each side of the enclosure using the built-in handles.
CONFIGURING THE XLT415 WITH A FULL-RANGE SYSTEM
(Refer to FIGURE 1)
For proper operation, the XLT415 requires an electronic crossover with a crossover frequency between 80
Hz and 200 Hz with a 12 dB or 18 dB per octave crossover slope. If you have a choice of filter types, the
Butterworth type is recommended. Some experimentation may be needed to determine the optimum
crossover settings depending on the loudspeakers with which the XLT415 is used. Adjust the acoustical
balance between the XLT415 and the full-range loudspeaker by using the amplifier input level controls or the
crossover output level controls. A high pass filter set between 30 Hz - 35 Hz is strongly recommended to
avoid driver over-excursion from lower frequencies that the XLT415 is not designed to reproduce.
RECOMMENDED AMPLIFIER POWER
The recommended amplifier power is between 1200W and 1800W RMS at 4 Ohms. This can be either the
per channel rating (one XLT415 per amplifier channel) or the mono-bridge rating (one XLT415 per amplifier).
CONNECTING THE XLT415
(Refer to FIGURE 2)
The XLT415 has two Neutrik Speakon NL4MP and two 1/4 inch phone jacks. All jacks are wired in parallel
so that any one jack can be used for the input connection. For best results, use one of the Neutrik jacks.
The mating cable connector is the Neutrik NL4FC. The Neutrik has higher current and voltage ratings,
provides a better electrical connection, and mechanically locks in place to prevent accidental disconnection.
SPEAKER CABLE
The speaker cable you use must be capable of delivering considerable power to the XLT415. For example, a
1500W amplifier will produce up to 110 volts at 27 amperes at full peak output into 4 ohms. Keep the cable
run from the amplifier to the XLT415 as short as possible. If possible, avoid using cable lengths longer than
100 feet (30 m).
Recommended cable sizes:
#12 AWG or #10 AWG for lengths up to 50 feet (15 m).
#10 AWG for lengths of 50 ft (15 m) to 100 feet (30 m).
