3.5 Mounting the backstop
1. Unplug the sander.
2. Place the backstop (4) over the holes in
the side of the sanding belt assembly.
3. Attach the back stop by screwing in
2 socket head cap screws (16) fitted
with flat washers.
4. Adjust the backstop so that the gap
between it and the belt is no more than
1–2 mm. Tighten the screws.
3.6 Sanding belt tracking
1. Plug the sander into a wall socket.
2. Turn on the motor and turn it off straight
away. Watch how the belt rotates on
the rollers and note whether it is centred
or whether it is pulling to one side. If
the belt is centred on both the rollers it
does not need adjusting, but if not:
-
If the belt moves towards
the sanding disc – turn the tracking
knob (8) clockwise ¼ turn (looking
from the drive roller).
-
If the belt moves away from the sanding disc – turn the tracking knob (8)
anticlockwise ¼ turn (looking from the drive roller).
3. Turn on the motor and turn it off straight away, to check the tracking again.
Repeat the above tracking procedure until the belt is centred on both of the rollers.
3.7 Using the sanding belt at different angles
1. Unplug the sander.
2. Undo the sanding belt locking bolt
(25), raise the belt assembly (6) to
the desired angle and then tighten
the locking bolt.
