PCMCIA Card
- A credit-card sized, removable module for porta-
ble computers standardized by PCMCIA. Also known as PC Cards,
they are 16-bit devices that are used to attach modems, network
adapters, sound cards, radio transceivers, solid-state disks and hard
disks to a portable computer. The PC Card is a “plug and play” de-
vice, which is configured automatically by the Card Services soft-
ware.
PCMCIA is an acronym for Personal Computer Memory Card Inter-
national Association which is an international standards body and
trade association that was founded to establish a standard for con-
necting peripherals to portable computers.

- Any external device attached to a computer, such as a
printer, disk drive, display monitor, etc.
Plug and Play
- The ability to add a new component and have it
work without having to perform any technical analysis or procedure.

POST
(Power On Self Test) - A series of built-in diagnostics that are
performed when the computer is booted.
