Operation
Inspecting TP cable (RJ45) and ISDN cable (RJ11)
Note:
Never connect the network tester to a network which is in use and is active, disconnect the cables
before testing them.
1. Connect one end of the cable to the Master unit and the other end to the Remote unit.
Detach the Remote unit and connect it to the other end of the cable if the cable is already installed.
2. Turn the on/off switch to
ON
(or
S
for slow testing)
3. Read the LEDs on the Master Unit.
4. The LEDs (1–8 and G) will flash in pairs on both units simultaneously.
• If the cable is OK the Master and Remote will flash in unison: 1 - 1, 2 - 2, 3 - 3, etc.
• If the cable is defective no LEDs will be lit.
• If “G” flashes during testing, the cable is shielded.
• If the connected cable is crossed, Master and Remote will start flashing out of sync:
1 - 3, 2 - 4, 3 - 1, etc.
Note:
• ISDN cable (RJ11) has 6 wire cores (1–6).
• TP cable (RJ45) has 8 cores (unshielded cable) or 8 cores + shield (G).
• The on/off switch has 3 positions: “OFF”, “ON” and “S” (slow testing).
