Replacing an Internal SD Card
Replacing the LSI RAID Battery Backup Unit or SuperCap Power Module
This server supports installation of two RAID battery backup units (BBUs) or SuperCap Power Modules
(SCPMs). The units mount to clips on the removable air baffle (see

If you are replacing a BBU on an older card, order the iBBU09 battery backup unit (UCS-RAID-BBU=).
The newer SuperCap power module is not compatible with older, non-CacheVault cards.
The SCPM provides approximately 3 years of backup for the disk write-back cache DRAM in the case
of sudden power loss by offloading the cache to the NAND flash.
Warning
There is danger of explosion if the battery is replaced incorrectly. Replace the battery only with the
same or equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer. Dispose of used batteries according to
the manufacturer’s instructions.
Statement 1015
To replace the RAID controller BBU or SCPM backup unit, follow these steps:
Step 1
Remove a backup unit (see
a.
Power off the server as described in the
“Shutting Down and Powering Off the Server” section on
b.
Slide the server out the front of the rack far enough so that you can remove the top cover. You might
have to detach cables from the rear panel to provide clearance.
Caution
If you cannot safely view and access the component, remove the server from the rack.
c.
Remove the top cover as described in the
“Removing and Replacing the Server Top Cover” section
.
d.
Disconnect the cable that is attached to the existing backup unit.
e.
Slide the backup unit free of the clips on the air baffle mounting point (see
).
Step 2
Install a new backup unit:
a.
Slide the new backup unit into the clips on the air baffle mounting point.
b.
Connect the cable from the RAID controller to the new backup unit.
c.
Replace the top cover.
d.
Replace the server in the rack, replace cables, and then power on the server by pressing the
Power
button.
