Installation Guidelines
Before you install a Cisco Unified 500 Series, review the Regulatory Compliance and Safety
Information for Cisco Unified Communications 500 Series for Small Business document on
Cisco.com.
This platform is a self-contained unit. Do not remove or install any modules or interface cards unless
otherwise directed.
When selecting an installation site, observe these guidelines:
•
Cabling is away from sources of electrical noise, such as radios, power lines, and fluorescent
lighting fixtures.
•
Clearance to the front and back panels is such that:
–
Airflow around the platform and through the vents is unrestricted.
–
Front-panel LEDs can be easily read.
–
Access to ports is sufficient for unrestricted cabling.
•
Temperature does not exceed 104˚F (40˚C), humidity does not exceed 85 percent, and altitude at
the installation site is not greater than 10,000 feet (3049 meters).
Desktop Installation
When installing a Cisco Unified 500 Series and power supply on a desktop, observe the following
precautions:
Caution
The Cisco Unified 500 Series installation must allow unrestricted airflow for cooling. For
placing the platform on a desktop, keep at least 1 in. (2.54 cm) of clear space beside the
cooling inlet and exhaust vents.

T
his unit is intended for installation in restricted access areas. A restricted
access area can be accessed only through the use of a special tool, lock and
key, or other means of security.
