Installation Commands
Setting Up Alarm Contacts
To set up alarm contacts, follow these steps:
Step 1
Obtain an 8-conductor, 8 AWG solid-wire cable and terminate one end with an RJ-45 connector.
Step 2
Connect the stub end of the alarm cable to the alarm system contacts, either to miscellaneous discrete
inputs on terminal equipment or to a central office alarm panel.
Step 3
Connect the RJ-45 connector to the Cisco ONS 15501.

Installation Commands
You can connect to a Cisco ONS 15501 locally using a serial connection or remotely through SNMP. See
the
“Configuring Local Serial Communication” section on page 3-1
for instructions on setting up either
of these options. After you establish a connection, use the following commands to complete the hardware
installation. See
Chapter 4, “Command Reference,”
for a complete list of available commands.
Introductory Commands
You can use the following commands to establish communication with the Cisco ONS 15501 and to
access additional information about the amplifier.
•
help — Displays a list of all available commands
•
sys-info — Displays the basic information on the system, including CLEI (Common Language
Equipment Identifier) code, model number, serial number, MAC address, firmware version,
firmware build date, and firmware update date
Review and Operational Commands
You can use the following commands to review the overall status of the Cisco ONS 15501.
•
alarm — Displays a list of alarms in the system
•
status — Displays the measured, alarm mean, and alarm trigger values for input power, internal case
temperature, optical gain, and output signal power, as well as the measured values for optical output
power and output attenuation
