To set the data bits per character for physical terminal connections, use the

command in line
console configuration mode. To restore the default value, use the
no
form of this command.

To use this command, you must be in a user group associated with a task group that includes the proper
task IDs.
Use the
databits
command to set the data bits attributes for physical terminal connections. Physical
terminal connections use either the console or auxiliary line template.
The
databits
command masks the high bit on input from devices that generate 7 data bits with parity. If
parity is being generated, specify 7 data bits per character. If no parity generation is in effect, specify 8
data bits per character. The keywords
5
and
6
are supplied for compatibility with older devices and
generally are not used.
