The major functions of each element of the CSC are summarized briefly in the following 
paragraphs.

•

Master clock generator—This function on the CSC provides a clock source to the RP, 
all installed switch cards (including the SFCs and a redundant CSC), and all installed 
line cards. The master clock generator synchronizes the transfer of data through the 
router’s switch fabric.
