Troubleshooting
WARNING
Read the REPAIR chapter and make
sure that the power is disconnected
before doing any repairs.
ISSUE POSSIBLE CAUSE SOLUTION
The force required to move the upper spreader clamps along the linear rods is normally 2-5 pounds. If
there is extra tension on the belt, the movement may be erratic or slow. If the belt is too lose it may skip
on the pulley.
Flatwork Not Properly Spread
Message Reads:
UPPER SPREADER STALLED
1. Excessive tension in the
upper spreader belt.
Refer to the REPAIR chapter, Spread
Section section, Upper Spreader Belt
Tension Adjustment procedure.

2. Excessive friction in the
rail-carriage assembly.
Lubricate the rail. Refer to the PRE-
VENTIVE MAINTENANCE chapter,
Weekly PM section, Lubricate Upper
Spreader Rail
procedure.
•
3. Upper spreader encoder
(PX9) malfunction.
Check. Adjust/replace as necessary.
Refer to the REPAIR chapter, Sensors
section, Proximity Sensor Position-
ing Adjustment
procedure.
•
4. Home sensor (PX12) mal-
function.
Check. Adjust/replace as necessary.
Refer to the REPAIR chapter, Sensors
section, Proximity Sensor Position-
ing Adjustment procedure.
•
5. Taut sensors (PE14 L/R)
malfunction.
Check. Adjust/replace as necessary.
Refer to the REPAIR chapter, Sensors
section, Taut Photosensor Alignment
procedure.

6. The inverter may need to
be adjusted.
Adjust the inverter. Contact the factory
Service Department.
•
7. Defective run relay (CR4)
or fuse.
Test and/or replace. •
8. Spreader timing out of
adjustment.
Refer to the CHI PANEL OPERATION
bulletin, spreader related Adjustment
and Testing sections.
