Transfer Clamp Check and
Adjustment
The transfer clamps must grip the flatwork
firmly and evenly to ensure proper transfer from
the inlet section to the spread section.
Checking the Clamps
Required Tools
7/16” wrench, 1/8” Allen wrench,
small slotted screwdriver
Perform only when the unit is OFF
with power connected.
Use extreme caution.
Turn ON the compressed air supply to
the unit.
Locate the main solenoid air valve on the
inside wall of the left endframe (Figure 7-
6) and locate the valve’s override screw.
Use a small screwdriver to push in the
lockout screw and turn it 1/4 turn clock-
wise to lock it in the “in” position. This
allows compressed air to flow to the
transfer clamps.
Move into the middle of the machine.
Use care.
On the inside back wall, locate the bank of
solenoid air valves (Figure 7-10). Four of
these are for the transfer clamps:
A (2nd from left) is for the left clamp
of the left station transfer clamp as-
sembly.
B (3rd from left) is for the right clamp
of the left station transfer clamp as-
sembly.
C (5th from left) is for the left clamp
of the right station transfer clamp as-
sembly.
D (6th from left) is for the right clamp
of the right station transfer clamp as-
sembly.

Locate the blue or yellow plastic override
screw (Figure 7-10, E) for the specific
clamp to be tested.
Use a small screwdriver to turn it about 1/4
turn in either direction and hold it in this
“open” position. This allows compressed
air to flow to the specific transfer clamp
jaw as long as the valve is held open.
Check the transfer clamp:
Look for a gap between the clamp jaw
and the clamp body.
Pull on the clamp jaw to check that it
is firmly closed and to see if there is
any free play.
As appropriate:
If there is a gap in the clamp, or if it is
not firmly closed, it needs adjustment.
Continue to the
Adjusting the Clamps
procedure next.
If there is no gap and it is firmly closed,
no adjustment is necessary.
Remove the screwdriver from the
override screw. It moves back into
the valve closed position.
Release the main solenoid lockout
screw from Step 3 by turning it 1/4
turn counterclockwise.
Turn OFF the compressed air
supply.
