10. Install a c c e s s o r ie s and adjust drive b elts.
11. In stall radiator g r ille , in sta ll hood a s
sem b ly, then in sta ll a c c e s s cover in sid e cab.
12. In stall gearsh ift le v e r on tr a n sm issio n ,
in sta ll floor pan over tra n sm issio n , and floor mat.
13. Connect a ir conditioning and lin e s , if
equipped.
14. F ill cooling sy ste m and connect battery
cab les.
15. Start engine and inspect for cooling sy ste m
and o il leak s.
TILT CAB MODELS
REMOVAL
1. T ilt the cab forw ard and drain the cooling
sy ste m . R em ove air clea n er and h o ses.
2. D iscon n ect cab les from the battery.
3. D isconnect equipment and w iring a s n ec
e ssa r y to allow rem oval of control island.
4. R em ove attaching b olts, then rem ove con
tr o l islan d and cab rea r support.
5. D isconnect exhaust p ip es at exhaust m ani
fold s.

. D isconnect radiator h o ses and heater h o ses.
7. D iscon n ect a ll sta r te r cab les, ground strap s
and other w iring connected to engine ele c tr ica l
equipment.

. D isconnect pow er stee rin g lin es (w henused).
9. D isconnect engine o il cooler lin e s.
10. D isconnect fuel supply and return lin e s.
11. D isconnect p ro p eller shaft and speedom
e ter drive at rea r of tra n sm issio n .
12. D iscon n ect clutch r e le a se linkage.
13. D isconnect air d ischarge lin e and lubri
cation lin e s from a ir co m p resso r.
14. Attach overhead lifting equipment and
r a is e until power plant is p artially supported; then
rem ove front and rear mounting bolts.
15. L ift power plant out of c h a s s is , using care
to prevent fouling of lin es and w iring.
16. R em ove tra n sm issio n and clutch from en
gine, making referen ce to appropriate sec tio n s of
manual for additional inform ation required to
properly sep arate the com ponents.
INSTALLATION
R efer to applicable portion of TRANSMIS
SIONS AND CLUTCHES (SEC. 7) of th is manual
for inform ation required to properly a ssem b le
clutch p arts and tra n sm issio n to engine.
1. Attach overhead h oist in manner to provide
balance a s engine is lifted into position.
2. With mounting brackets in p lace on engine,
lift pow er plant into p la ce. Locate engine front and
rea r mountings and in sta ll mounting b o lts. R efer
to ENGINE MOUNTINGS (SEC.

D) for n e c e ssa r y
inform ation regarding engine mountings.
3. Connect a ir lin e s, lubricating o il lin e s,
e le c tr ic a l w iring, and radiator and heater h o ses.
Connect o il co o ler lin e s.
4. Connect p rop eller shaft and speedom eter
d rive. A lso , connect tachom eter drive (w henused).
5. Connect clutch control linkage.
6
. Install control island and connect a ll wiring
and tr a n sm issio n control rods. Install a ir clean er
and h o se s.
7. F ill cooling sy ste m and check for lea k s.

. Make certain engine crankcase i s fille d to
proper le v e l with engine o il.
9. Connect battery c a b les, p rim e fuel sy stem ,
and start engine. Adjust controls and inspect for
o il lea k s.
IN-VEHICLE ENGINE COMPONENT REPLACEMENT
ROCKER ARM COVER
REPLACEMENT
1. R em ove cover s c r e w s , then rem ove cover
and gasket.
2. R ev erse procedure in Step 1 to in sta ll
rock er arm co v er. U se new cover gasket.
VALVE SPRING REPLACEMENT
(CYLINDER HEAD INSTALLED)
It is p o ssib le , if occasion req u ires, to rem ove
or rep la ce the exhaust valve springs without r e
moving cylinder head. The sp rin gs, however, are
norm ally rem oved when the head i s off the engine.
An exhaust valve spring may be rem oved,
without rem oving cylinder head from the engine
a s follow s:
1. Rem ove valve rocker cover.
2. Crank the engine over to bring the valve
and in jector rock er arm s in lin e horizontally.
3. D isconnect and rem ove the fuel lin e s from
the injector and fuel connectors.
4. R em ove the two b o lts holding the rocker
arm shaft b rackets to the cylinder head and rem ove
the b rackets and shaft.
