CONSOLE ACCESS PANEL AND HEATER
COVER REPLACEMENT (Fig. 45)
1. R em ove p a ssen g er sea t and platform (when
u sed ).
2. L oosen quick r e le a s e sc r e w s that retain
panel a c c e s s cover to panel reinforcem ent brace,
co n so le panel, and heater co v er. R em ove a c c e s s
co v er from cab.
3. L oosen quick r e le a s e sc r e w s retaining
h eater cover to panel rein forcem en t and console
p anel. R em ove h eater cover from cab.
4. To in sta ll c o v e rs sim ply r e v e r se rem oval
p roced u res. B e su re s e a ls located on ed ges of
a c c e s s panel and h eater cov ers a re in p la ce before
tightening quick r e le a s e sc r e w s .
INLET AIR ASSEMBLY. MAIN HEATER
HOUSING, AND AIR DISTRIBUTOR

R em oval
1. R em ove a c c e s s panel and h eater co v er as
d escrib ed previou sly in th is sectio n , under "Con
s o le A c c e s s Panel andH eater C over R eplacem ent."
2. Drain the engine coolant.
3. D isconnect battery ground cable.
4 . D isconnect coolant lin e s from main heater
c o r e and sle e p e r heater co re (when u se d ).
5. D iscon n ect e le c tr ic a l lea d s from blower
m otors and a ir conditioning sw itch , mounted on air
distributor. Then m ove w iring h a rn ess out of p o s i
tion so a s not to in terfe re w ith h eater housing r e
m oval.

. D iscon n ect a ll heating and cooling control
ca b le s. Label each with colored tape to a ssu r e
proper in stallation .
7. On m od els equipped w ith sle e p e r com part
m ent h eater, lift up m a ttress and plywood support,
then lo o sen p la stic clam ps retaining sle e p e r ducts
to sle e p e r heater o u tlets. Note that p la stic clam ps
a r e located im m ed iately to the r ea r of sle e p e r
com partm ent bulkhead.

d efro ster duct h o se s to air distributor a ssem b ly .
R em ove air conditioning ou tlets from a ir d is
tributor.
9. R em ove b olts that retain main h eater hous
ing and sle e p e r h eater (when used) to engine tunnel.
10. V isu ally in sp ect to d eterm ine if other
equipm ent, lin e s , c a b les, b ra ck ets, o r attaching
p a rts m ust be rem oved to p erm it rem oval of the
main h eater housing and a ir distributor a ssem b ly .
NOTE: It may be n e c e ssa r y to lo o sen sc r e w s
at both ends of panel rein forcem en t b ra ce to p ro
vide additional clea r a n c e for rem oval of main heat
er housing and air distributor a ssem b ly (refer to
fig .45).
11. With the aid of an a ssista n t, carefu lly r e
m ove in let a ir a sse m b ly , main heater housing and
a ir distributor, plus s le e p e r heater (when used)
from in sid e cab.
12. If d esired , a ir distributor and sle e p e r
heater can be rem oved from main heater housing.
If a ir distributor i s rem oved from main heater
housing during a sse m b ly , u se a s e a le r at the m at
ing su r fa c e s betw een the two com ponents to p r e
vent a ir lea k s.
Installation
1. With the aid of an a ssista n t, ca refu lly p o s i
tion in let air a sse m b ly , main h eater housing and
a ir distributor a ssem b ly in the cab on the engine
tunnel.
2. In stall b olts that retain in let a ir a ssem b ly
and sle e p e r heater (when used) to engine co v er.
3. Attach h eater and d efro ster h o se s to air
d istrib u tor. R etain h o se s in p osition w ith p la stic
clam p s.
4. On m odels equipped with sle e p e r com part
ment h eater, lift up m a ttr e ss and plywood support,
then se c u r e s le e p e r ducts to sle e p e r h eater outlets
with p la stic clam p s.
5. Connect a ll heating and cooling control
cab les (r efer to fig . 42).
