3. Rem ove cotter pin and differential bearing adjuster
lock (6).
4. C ut lock wire, then remove bearing cap screws (2),
bearing caps (7) and threaded adjusters (8 and 27).
5. Lift differential and gear assembly from carrier using
bar and chain in m anner illustrated in Figure 5.
PINION AND C A G E ASSEMBLY REMOVAL
1. Remove cap screws (38) and lock washers which at
tach pinion cage (36) to carrier.
2. A t inner end of pinion, use brass drift and ham m er to
drive pinion and cage assem bly from differential ca r
rier (fig. 6). Use caution so as not to let assembly be
dam aged by dropping.
3. R em cve adjusting shims (35) from between carrier
and cage. W ire shim pack together to facilitate ad
justm en t at reassembly.
