GP 6.11 Diffuse Sensors
Diffuse sensors emit a diffuse, infrared beam.
The beam is reflected back to the sensor from
the object being monitored (books in this case).
The best performance is attained when the
sensing surface is mounted approximately 1/4"
(6.4 mm) away from the objects being sensed.
Sensing accuracy is adjusted with a dial on the
sensor. A small screwdriver is required to turn
the dial.
Note: Diffuse sensors may not work properly
under bright light. Use normal ambient light
while adjusting sensors. These sensors have
the most difficulty sensing black objects. 1/4"
sensing distance is recommended for sensing
black cover.
Figure 6-11. Diffuse Sensor
Procedure
1. Switch on the machine and enter sensor
data mode.
2. Clean the sensing surface with a dry cloth.
3. Check that the sensor is working properly.
Using black paper, actuate the sensor from
the point the book will pass. Does the sen-
sor activate?
Y N
a. Adjust the dial on the sensor using a
small screwdriver until the sensor de-
tects a black sheet from the point a book
will pass. The sensor and main PWB
are working properly if the led on the
sensor changes states and main PWB
emits an audible tone. Does the sensor
actuate?
Y N
1) Disconnect and lock out main power
to the machine.
2) Replace the sensor.
3) Adjust its sensing distance using the
dial on the sensor.
b. The sensor adjustment is complete.
4. The sensor adjustment is complete.
