2. OPERATING THE VC431
This chapter contains all the information needed to configure, adjust and make
measurements with the
VC431 .
2.1 First steps
This section describes the steps to go through before using the VC431 .
2.1.1 Material and documentation
The first step is to check the material and documentation supplied with the VC431 :

Two 1.5 V alkaline batteries

If any of these items are missing please contact your official retailer.
NOTE: to work with the VC431 you need to have an AC031, AC032 or AC033 triaxial accelerometer.
If you did not acquire any of these accelerometers together with the VC431 contact your official
retailer.
2.1.2 Power supply to the VC431
Before switching on the VC431 it must be connected to a power supply.
The VC431 vibrometer is powered by two AA (LR6) alkaline batteries or through the USB
port [10] . If both systems are used at the same time (batteries + USB port), the VC431
chooses the one with the highest voltage.
PB015 rechargeable batteries can also be used.
To fit the batteries, remove the battery compartment cover

located at the back of the VC431 . Place the two batteries
as shown on the battery compartment, to do so press the
negative pole of the battery against the spring and insert the
battery so that the positive pole presses against the smooth
metal contact.
When the batteries are fully charged, the symbol is
displayed on the display. The symbol becomes emptier as
the batteries gradually lose their charge
. When battery
level falls below the level required for the VC431 to work
properly, the battery symbol will appear crossed out in
the centre of the display for two seconds and the unit will
power off. The batteries must be changed.
