Adjusting Image Brightness (Exposure Compensation)
The standard exposure set by the camera can be adjusted in 1/3-stop
increments, in a range of –2 to +2.
z z Press the <
b
> button. As you watch the
screen, press the < q >< r > buttons or turn
the < 5 > dial to adjust brightness, and then
press the < b > button again when finished.
X X The correction level you specified is now
displayed.

Locking Image Brightness/Exposure (AE Lock)
Before shooting, you can lock the exposure, or you can specify focus and
exposure separately.

Lock the exposure.
z z Aim the camera at the subject to shoot with
the exposure locked. With the shutter button
pressed halfway, press the < b > button.
X X [ ] is displayed, and the exposure is locked.
z z To unlock AE, release the shutter button
and press the < b > button again. In this
case, [ ] is no longer displayed.

Compose the shot and shoot.
z z After one shot, AE is unlocked and [ ] is
no longer displayed.
• AE: Auto Exposure
• After the exposure is locked, you can adjust the combination of shutter
speed and aperture value by turning the < 5 > dial (Program Shift).
