Cause
Action
The reception start speed <
RX
START SPEED
> is set to
33600bps.
Reduce the reception start speed (see page 156). If there is a bad line
or connection, reducing the reception start speed may correct the
error.
The sender’s fax machine is not
operating normally.
Contact the sender and check whether his/her fax machine is
operating normally.
Cause
Action
The Alarm lamp is flashing.
If it is flashing, see
“When The Alarm Lamp Flashes,”
The telephone line is connected to
the
jack.
Reconnect to the
jack (see page 82). When the telephone line is
correctly connected to the machine, the machine stops making
noises. If you do not hear anything, there is a problem with the
telephone line. Contact your telephone company.
The telephone line type is not set
correctly.
You can still receive faxes even if the telephone line type is not set
correctly. If you can receive but cannot send, check the telephone
line type setting. (See page 83)
The fax number is not registered
correctly in the directory.
If you are using directory dialing, check that the fax number is
correctly registered. (See page 90)
The dialed number is wrong.
Check the number and try dialing again.
There was an error during
transmission.

The recipient’s fax machine is not
G3-compatible.
Check that the recipient’s fax machine is G3-compatible. If not, you
will be unable to send faxes.
Cause
Action
The document is not loaded
correctly, or the platen glass or the
inner side of the document cover is
dirty.
• Check that the document is loaded correctly on the platen glass.

• Try making a copy. If you can make a clean copy, it is probably that
the recipient’s fax machine is the source of the problem. Contact the
recipient to confirm. If you are unable to make a clean copy, clean
the machine. (See page 121)
The image quality displayed on the
LCD is not suitable for the
document.
