Chapter 15

[ Inspected by Canon Inc. ]
Description
Since the message "Insert the drum cartridge." appeared (for all the 4 colors) although no drum cartridge reached the end of service life, the image formation
high-voltage PCB was replaced for solution. When the same symptom occurs, perform the following steps in sequence.
Cause
Since the image formation high-voltage (HV1) PCB was faulty, bias was not applied to the developing cylinder in each drum cartridge, causing the cylinders
to fail to attract toner particles. This machine recognized this situation as a fault in each drum cartridge, and displayed the message.
Field Remedy
1. Pull out the drum cartridges and then re-insert them.
2. Re-fit all the connectors of the image formation high-voltage (HV1) PCB.
3. Re-fit J112A and J112B connectors of the DC controller PCB.
4. Replace the image formation high-voltage (HV1) PCB with a new one.

Description
Since the message "Replace toner cartridge. (Yellow)" was displayed with plenty of toner left, the toner sensor was replaced with a new one for solution.
Cause
The faulty toner sensor falsely detected the amount of toner left.
Field Remedy
1. Interchange the toner sensor for the color indicated by the displayed message and that for another color to check to see if the message changes.
2. If the message changed, replace the trouble toner sensor with a new one.

Description
When starting this machine by pressing the numeric keys '1' and '7' at the same time during a print test at pre-installation, the machine hung up when the
progress bar ran up to one-tenth the way; however, this symptom was solved by replacing the RB-A2 PCB by a new one.
Field Remedy
1. Re-fit the RB-A2 PCB.
2. If Step 1 does not work on the symptom, wipe the terminal of the RB-A2 PCB with lint-free paper impregnated with alcohol, and then connect the PCB
again.
3. If the symptom still occurs, replace the RB-A2 PCB with a new one.
Note: When connecting the PCB [3], sandwich it between the mounting plate [1] and the leaf spring [2].
