Policer (Rate Metering) Overview
The PTP 820G and PTP 820F switching fabric supports hierarchical policing on the logical interface level. You can
define up to 250 rate meter (policer) profiles.
Note
Policing on the service point level, and the service point and CoS level, is planned for future release.
PTP 820G and PTP 820F 's policer mechanism is based on a dual leaky bucket mechanism (TrTCM). The policers can
change a frame’s color and CoS settings based on CIR/EIR + CBS/EBS, which makes the policer mechanism a k
ey
tool for implementing bandwidth profiles and enabling operators to meet strict SLA requirements.
The output of the policers is a suggested color for the inspected frame. Based on this color, the queue
management mechanism decides whether to drop the frame or to pass it to the queue.
