OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS

HOT PLATE HEATER - PART NO. HPH1200

1.0

INSTALLATION

This equipment is intended for heavy duty use in dry
industrial environments. The HPH is ideal for heating
liquids, melting certain solids or preheating parts for
shrink fitting.

1.1

CAUTION -

Do not use this equipment in

hazardous locations, near flammable or combustible
material or to heat highly volatile substances.

1.2

For heating liquids or melting solids, use a flat

bottomed beaker, pail, or pan suitable for 550°F(290°C).
If the container has a rim around the bottom, ensure it
overhangs the plate (See Fig. 1). Plate configurations
for holding specifically shaped containers may be
specially ordered from the factory.

1.3

Loosen the lid or open a vent to prevent

potentially dangerous pressure build-up.

1.4

Maintain 3" (75 mm) minimum clearance from

combustible surfaces.

1.5

Locate the equipment on a sturdy flat surface

with ready access to a 120V power supply receptacle.
Ensure that the four support legs are secure.

2.0

OPERATION

2.1

Plug the heater in to a 120V grounded 15 amp

dedicated receptacle. The cord must not cross over
the heating plate. (You may choose to turn the heater
so that the pilot light faces sideways to protect it from
damage.)

2.2

During operation the pilot light will cycle. The

light does not indicate any particular fluid temperature.

2.3

Immediately clean up any spills of liquid.

2.4

The plate may reach temperatures up to 550°F

(290°C).

2.5

Check periodically to ensure the substance has

not evaporated from the container.

2.6

The thermostat controls the plate temperature

and has a knob at the front for set point adjustment.
The setting is determined by trial and error based on
the container and contents being heated. Higher
settings will shorten heat-up time, but may result in
over temperature. A plug-in timer can be used to
eliminate excess waiting periods.

3.0

MAINTENANCE

3.1

Inspect the power cord for nicks or other

damage.

3.2

Keep the surface of the heating plate clean.

3.3

Ensure that the four support legs are secure.

3.4

Ensure that the terminal box cover is secure.

Never remove the cover while the unit is plugged in.
