Step 4:
Using a DMM, measure the battery voltages to verify their condition. Replace any
battery measured at less than 12.5 VDC.
Note: A good battery will indicate at least 12.5 VDC. A fully charged battery
will indicate between 13.0 and 14.2 VDC.
Step 5:
In the battery hardware package (shipped with the batteries) locate the adapters,
connector straps, and hardware.
Step 6:
Using a clean, soft cloth, clean the flat contact-making surfaces of all battery
terminals, interconnecting cables, and battery string connector cables. Using an
abrasive pad or fine grit abrasive paper, lightly abrade these surfaces to remove any
surface oxidation.
ALERT
Do not use a wire brush; be especially careful not to break through any lead plating.
Step 7:
Use a soft water-moistened cloth to clean each battery exterior.
ALERT
Do not use detergents, solvent-based cleaning agents, or abrasive cleaners.
Step 8:
Install the batteries for each string in the battery compartment.
Step 9:
Apply a light coating of antioxidant grease (NO-OX-ID
®
or equivalent) to all
contact-making surfaces of the battery terminals, terminal nuts, and connecting
straps.
Step 10:
At the four red (-) terminals, install the battery terminal nuts.
ALERT
Tighten all terminal nuts to a torque of 65-70 in-lb. (735-790 N-cm).
