Under some driving 
conditions, including those 
listed below, it is normal for 
the temperature to rise above 
the usual operating range and 
approach the far end of the 
gage:

- stop and go driving in heavy 

traffic

- high speed operation in 

warm weather

- uphill driving

- trailer towing or hauling a 

heavy load

You may see the reading 
fluctuate. This is normal.

Some vehicles are equipped 
with an engine coolant 
temperature warning light. If 
your vehicle has this warning 
light, and if this light illumi-
nates, the engine is too hot.

Whether or not your vehicle is 
equipped with the engine 
coolant temperature warning 
light, if the gage pointer reach-
es the warning area or the 
shaded thermostat symbol at 
the far end of the gage and 
remains there for more than 
30 seconds, the engine 
coolant has overheated.

If the engine coolant has over-
heated, pull over and stop the 
vehicle as soon as it is safe to 
do so. Then, turn the engine 
off immediately.

cooling system.

4. Odometer/Trip Odometer

The odometer shows how far 
your vehicle has been driven.

The trip odometer can tell you 
how far your vehicle has been 
driven since you last set the 
trip odometer to zero.

To set the trip odometer to 
zero, display the trip 
odometer, then press the 
Driver Information Center 
set/reset button.

To display the odometer 
reading while the ignition is 
off, press the trip/fuel 
information button.
