SDT
Single Drop Trimmer
U.S.PAT.No. 6,253.641
Thank you for choosing a Cablematic® tool manufactured by the Ripley Company. The proper use of this cable
preparation tool will result in error free preparation of the drop cable end. In one step, both the center conductor
and braid exposure lengths are prepared to SCTE and Bellcore specifications.
The Single Drop Trimmer (SDT) will perform industry specified preparations of 1/4” and 1/8” braid exposure on
all 59, 6, 7 and 11 series drop cables. The center conductor is trimmed to a 1/4” length on all cables. Blade
cassettes are color coded and marked for easy identification of the cable size and braid exposure length. The 59/6
(red) blade cassettes are for use with all 59 or 6 series drop cable constructions and the 7 (green) blade cassettes
are for use on any 7 series drop cable construction. Due to the variations of 11 series drop cable currently used in
the CATV industry, there are two different 11 blade cassettes. This feature allows the user a choice of cassettes
best suited for their particular cable. The 11Q (gray) blade cassette is designed for .032 (.812mm) nominal jacket
thickness and is specifically for current Belden, CommScope and Times Fiber Communications 11 quad series
construction. The 11 (black) blade cassette is designed for .040 (1.02mm) nominal jacket thickness and is
specifically designed for all current 11 series standard and tri shield cables and Trilogy Quad shield cables.
Tool Instructions:
Insure that the proper SDT model has been selected for the cable you
are stripping. Please refer to the cassette and tool ordering guide on
page two of these instructions.
1.
Cut the cable squarely with a side/diagonal wire cutter. Reform the
cable end to a round diameter. If a messengered or siamese cable is
used it may be necessary to remove the remaining webbing material for
proper connectorization. This can be done with the Ripley Drop Cable
Slitter (DCS).
2.
Place the cable between the jaws of the tool in the direction of the
arrow on bottom of tool as in Figure 2. The jaws are opened by
pressing Lever A in Figure 1. Position the end of the cable to the right
edge of the lower jaw as indicated in Figure 2. This will insure proper
conductor length. (For tool models supplied with a built in strip stop,
position the cable end to the stop on the lower jaw. This also ensures
proper conductor length.
