56 Chapter 3. Configuration
Based on your computer’s configuration, you may be able to connect one or more Bullhorn
units to your computer. An additional configuration cable is required for each connection.
Connect the configuration cable in an available RS232 serial port or USB port on your
computer. Connect the other end of the cable in the connector labeled
Config
on the
controller board of the Bullhorn unit. Refer to Bullhorn System Overview on page 2 for
location of the
Config
connector.

Verify you are working with the latest version of the UCT software.
To verify the software version, compare the version number on the label of the installation
CD with the version number on the Bullhorn website account. Or, when running the UCT
software, click
Help > About
to view the software version currently installed on your
computer. If you need to upgrade the UCT software, download and install the latest
software version using the instructions in
Downloading and Installing the UCT Software on
page 19.
UCT Software Overview
You can start the UCT software by double-clicking the Bullhorn program icon on your computer
desktop. Or, click
Start > Programs > American Innovations > Configuration Toolkit
. When the
software begins to initialize, a splash window displays the message “Connecting to unit” as the
software continues to scan and detect each Bullhorn unit that is connected to your computer.
When this process completes, either the
Find Devices
window (Figure 3-1) or the main
configuration window appears.

After selecting a unit, the configuration software begins to initialize. A status bar at
the bottom of the main configuration window displays the progress of the initialization process. If
the battery voltage is too low for normal operations, the status bar will freeze and the initialization
process will not continue. At this point you will need to either recharge or replace the battery.

The
Find Devices
window appears when you configure a unit for the first time. If you’re PC is
connected to more than one unit or you don’t see the unit listed that you want to configure, use the
drop-down list on this window to choose the unit you want to configure. The main configuration
window displays when you have already selected a unit and then exit and restart the software to
continue configuring the same unit.
