6.3.3 Installing the optical waveguide
Review
The optical waveguide transfers the optical signal from the printed web
to the register sensor. One end of the optical waveguide accommodates
the sensing head, fastened above the printed web. The other end of the
optical waveguide accommodates the end piece of the optical waveguide,
which is fastened to the fibre-optical interface on the front of the register
sensor housing.
For the 2nd channel option: The left-hand fibre-optical interface is used
to connect channel 1, the right-hand fibre-optical interface is used to
connect channel 2. If necessary, you can identify the ends of the optical
waveguides using the supplied
red
(channel 2) and
green
(channel 1)
cable clips.

Preparatory work:
Remove the blind closure from the fibre-optical
interface.
Perform the following operating steps to install the optical waveguide:
Fasten the sensing head above the printed web in the
holder provided for this purpose (example figure).
Guide the optical waveguide through the energy chain
and optical waveguide holders respectively. Insert the
optical waveguide end part into the optical waveguide
connection.
Use an Allen key to tighten the two Allen screws (width
across flats 1.5 mm) of the optical waveguide end part.
For the 2nd channel option: Repeat these steps for the second optical
waveguide.
