Sample Preparation Procedure
3.3.1
Identifying Suitable Crystals
Begin by using the microscope to look for a suitable crystal in the bulk sample. The ideal crystal should
be:
•
Uniform in color;
•
Free of cracks and inclusions;
•
Without attached crystallites; and
•
isometric (i.e., the same dimensions in all directions). The ideal crystal is about 0.5 mm
in all directions.

Problems Mounting Certain Crystals
NOTE:
Some water-soluble crystals may not
work with the ultraviolet-curable
adhesive. Super Glue
®
may be used in
such cases.
