Troubleshooting 7
Detector is oversaturated.
☞
For information about how to check the
detector for an oversaturation, see
section 4.8.
Reduce the IR signal intensity by:
• closing the manual or motorized knife-edge
aperture somewhat or
• selecting in OPUS a smaller spectrometer
aperture (max. 3 mm or smaller) (Note: This
solution variant involves the potential risk of
forgetting to undo this aperture setting after-
wards again.)
• only in case of HYPERION 3000: inserting a
beam attenuator in the optical adaptation box
between microscope and spectrometer (See
fig. 7.1.)
Beam path is blocked by the sample, for exam-
ple.
Transmission mode: Remove the sample from
the microscope stage.
Reflection mode: Substitute the sample for the
mirror. Place the mirror in the beam path.
Note:
The mirror is included in the standard
delivery scope of the microscope.
A VIS polarizer is in the beam path.
Take the VIS polarizer out of the beam path.
Note:
For IR signal check and IR spectro-
scopic measurements with polarized light,
place the IR polarizer in the beam path.
☞
See section 5.4.
The beam path is blocked by one or more
apertures (e.g. knife-edge aperture, iris aper-
ture for setting the Koehler illumination, pinhole
aperture for condenser adjustment).
Open the aperture(s) until you get a satisfying
IR signal intensity.
☞
For an overview of the apertures, see sec-
tion 3.7.
The aperture situated in FT IR spectrometer
which is coupled to the microscope: The aper-
ture diameter selected in OPUS is too small.
For measurements with the FPA detector,
always select the largest aperture diameter in
OPUS (in the
Measurement
dialog at the
Optics
dialog page).
☞
See appendix B.
In OPUS, the wrong measurement channel
and/or detector has/have been selected.
Select in the OPUS
Measurement
menu the
Advanced measurement
function. Click on the
Optics
tab. Select in the following drop-down
list the corresponding option:
Measurement channel:
Right Exit
or
Left Exit
Background meas. channel:
Right Exit
or
Left
Exit
Note:
These parameter settings depend on the
spectrometer side to which the microscope is
coupled.
Detector: Select a detector which is situated in
the microscope.
Note:
By default, these detector options have
the affix
[Microscope]
.
