When using two network cards, make sure you use a standard LAN cable (AO-1450) between
the PC and the in-house network and a crossover cable (AO-1449) between the PC and the
front-end (see Fig.2.4). The required cables are available from Brüel & Kjær.
Direct LAN Connection
It is not recommended to connect the PC and the front-end directly to the in-house network.
In doing so, you may interrupt your measurement data stream when there is heavy traffic on
the in-house network. For some applications, however, this may be the preferred setup – ask
your network administrator.

When connecting directly to your in-house network, make sure you use cables without the
crossover feature. Cables are available from Brüel & Kjær, order no. AO-1450, length 2 m.
2.3.2 Installation Considerations for Large Systems
With Type 3560-D and Type 3560-E front-ends, careful consideration must be given to the
subject of LAN bandwidth as both front-ends are very demanding in this regard.
With a high, sustained data rate, for example if more than three front-ends are connected,
you cannot use Ethernet switches such as UL-0190. Instead you need a Gigabit switch
capable of high transfer rates such as the 5-port Gigabit Ethernet switch GS105 from NET-
GEAR
™
(Brüel & Kjær order no. UL-0229), which has a bandwidth of 10 Gbit/s. More

PC
To handle these high transfer rates, the PC used must be equipped with a Gigabit Network
Card. You can use the built-in LAN card in the PC to connect to an in-house LAN installation.
