Oil Supply Priming
The oil system of
Evinrude E-TEC G2
outboards
is primed at the factory.
Priming the oiling system is only required if:
•
The oil tank is run out of oil; or
•
The oil system is disassembled for service or
parts replacement.
After refilling an empty oil tank or servicing the oil
system, air MUST be removed from the system
before operating the outboard.
Use
Evinrude Diagnostic
software v 6.1 or higher
to prime the oil system.
Oil Pump Priming
Use the
Tests/Prime Oil Pumps
function in
Evin-
rude Diagnostics
software to make sure air is
completely purged from the oil system.
Priming Procedure
Observe oil flow through ALL oil distribution hoses
during the priming procedure. Small air bubbles
are acceptable. Large air bubbles must be elimi-
nated through continued priming.
1. Start the outboard.
2. Use the
Prime All
button of the
Tests
screen to
start the oil priming sequence.
IMPORTANT:
The outboard should be running
during the priming procedure to avoid pumping too
much oil into the crankcase, which could cause a
hard-starting condition.
3. Observe oil flow through all oil distribution
hoses. Air must be purged during the priming
procedure.
4. After the
Prime All Oil Pumps
sequence is
complete, inspect the oil distribution hoses for
the:
–
crankcase oil pump
–
cylinder oil pump
IMPORTANT:
Inspect oil filter to make sure it is
filled with oil. All air must be eliminated from the oil
filter during priming procedure.
WARNING
Always use caution while working around
machinery with moving parts. The following
procedures require running tests that are per-
formed with the outboard’s motor cover
removed.
NOTICE
The oiling system MUST be primed to avoid
engine damage from a lack of lubrication.
