BTPD22625 Overview

WARNING  

Failure to read and follow the operator’s manual and all operating 

instructions can result in death, bodily injury, and/or property damage.

WARNING

 Fuel and its vapors are fl ammable and explosive. Turn off engine and 

wait at least 2 minutes before refueling. Let spilled fuel evaporate before 
starting engine. Always allow space for fuel expansion.

WARNING

 Outdoor use ONLY. DO NOT start or run engine indoors or in an 

enclosed area, even if windows and doors are open. Running engines 
give off carbon monoxide, an odorless, poison gas that can cause nausea, 
fainting or death.

WARNING

 DO NOT put hands or feet near or under rotating parts. Turn off engine 

and remove the spark plug wire before performing any checks or 
service to the machine. 

WARNING

 This cutting machine is capable of throwing objects. Failure to observe 

the following safety warnings could result in serious injury to the operator 
or bystanders.

 

• Do not operate the walk-behind mower without proper guards or other 
safety devices in place.

 

• Remove objects that could be thrown by blade.

 

• Keep the area of operation clear of all persons, particularly small children 
and pets.

Unpack the Mower

  1. Remove everything from carton except for mower.
  2. Open carton completely by cutting each corner from 

top to bottom.

  3. Remove the clear plastic sheet from the top of the 

engine.

  1. Remove the knob, lock washer, and bolt from each 

side of the handle base.

  2. Loosen, but do not remove, the knobs on the 

handle.

  3. Lift the handle to the operating position, and tighten 

the upper knobs.

  4. Reinsert the lower handle bolts through the handle 

base and handle.

  5. Install the lock washers and knobs. Tighten by hand.

  1. Move the mower outside to a fl at, level surface.
  2. Remove the oil fi ll cap. Add the entire contents of 

the supplied oil container into the engine. Replace 
the oil fi ll cap.

  3. Remove the fuel fi ll cap. Following the three-step 

instructions on the Fresh Start™ card, snap the fuel 
preserver cartridge into the bottom of the fuel fi ll 
cap.

  4. Add clean, fresh UNLEADED fuel with a minimum of 

87 octane, leaving one inch of space from the top of 
the tank for fuel expansion.

  5. Replace the fuel fi ll cap and wipe up any spills.

  1. For mulching, leave the mulching plate in place. 

  1. To convert from a mulcher to a side discharge, 

simply remove the mulching plate.

Assemble the Handle

  1. Hold the bail control against the handle and pull 

the recoil rope handle out to the rope guide on the 
handle.

  2. Hook the recoil rope into the rope guide (it may be a 

tight fi t).

Mower is shipped without oil in engine. Failure to add oil will result in engine damage. 

NOTICE:

 Fuel tank hold less than ½ gallon.Do not overfi ll.

NOTICE:

 DO NOT mix oil with fuel.

NOTICE:

 DO NOT use E85 fuel.

Attach the Mulching Plate

  1. Raise the chute defl ector (

).

  2. Align the mulcher plate (

) with the side discharge 

opening.

  3. Make sure that the two alignment bumps (

E

) are 

inside the opening.

  4. Mount the tab (

F

) on the top of the mulcher plate to 

the inside of the mower housing.

  5. Mount the tab on the bottom of the mulcher plate to 

the inside of the mower housing (

  6. Lower the chute defl ector.
