18 Numerical target indicator
The LCD shows the probable type of the target, as well as the probable depth of the target and a nu-
merical value (Target-ID) for target identification. The categorization should serve as a visual refer-
ence point. Many other metal objects can fall into each of these categories.
Types of metal:
GOLD:
Gold objects are reported on the left side of the LCD scale. The smaller the gold object, the fur-
ther to the left it is reported. Gold foil is reported on the left side (same as iron), large pieces of gold
are reported in the S-cap or zinc range. The numeric display shows gold in range 0-50.
IRON:
Ferrous objects or aluminium foil will report at the far-left side of the target scale. Objects in this
category could be worthless scrap, or more valuable iron relics. It will also report in the 0-10 range.
5¢:
Nickel and new pull tabs will report here. These objects will also be in the 11-20 numeric range.
P-TAB:
Pull-tabs of older beverage cans will report here. Many gold rings will also report here. For nu-
meric display, they will be in range of 21-30.
S-CAP:
Bottle caps with whorl and some small gold will report here. They will also be in range of
31-40.
Zn:
(1¢-post 1982) zinc or some copper coin will report here. The numeric range is 41-55.
DIME:
10¢ / (1¢ pre-1982) or aluminum coin will report here. The numeric range is 56-65.
25¢:
25¢ or some small silver coins, or large aluminum coins will report here. The numeric range is
65-80.
50¢:
50¢ or some large silver coins will report here. The numeric range is 81-90.
1$:
1$ or some big silver coin will report here. The numeric range is 91-99.

Note:
The target indications are visual references. Many other types of metal can fall in any of these
categories. The detector can indicate the presence of most common metal objects. It is impossible to
classify all buried objects accurately.
19 Depth indicator
The Depth Indicator indicates the relative depth of the target. It is accurate for coin-sized objects.
When passing over an object, the depth indicator will light up and stay illuminated until another object
is scanned. Repeated indication at the same depth level indicates an accurate target depth.
If the depth indication varies with each sweep, try sweeping at different angles. There may be more
than one target present. After practice, you will learn the difference of accurate readings, multiple tar-
gets, and highly erratic readings.
