Uncoupling the Fifth Wheel
1.
Set the emergency brake on the tractor.
2.
Set the trailer brakes with the tractor trailer
protection switch.
3.
Block the trailer wheels.
4.
The suspension air should be dumped from the
air bags after the trailer parking brake is applied.
5.
Disconnect the light cord and brake lines.
6.
Ensure the gooseneck lock pin is in place and locked. See Fig. 3-12.
WARNING!
The Lock Pin must be engaged into the Drive Lug before uncoupling the tractor from
the trailer. If not, the Gooseneck will fall to the ground.
7.
Start the engine on the gooseneck’s hydraulic power unit or connect and engage the tractor’s
hydraulic system. Make sure the selector valve is positioned correctly.
8.
Using the hydraulic controls, extend the main deck cylinders to rotate the gooseneck to a position
that will allow the shim legs to be rotated up. See Fig. 3-11.
9.
Using the hydraulic controls, rotate the shim legs UP.
10.
Using the hydraulic controls, adjust the length of the main deck cylinders to position the
gooseneck at a height that is approximately 1/8” above the tractor or jeep’s fifth wheel. See Fig. 3-
13.
11.
Shut off the gas on the hydraulic unit engine.
