Do not use silicone sprays

Care of paintwork
Washing the motorcycle regu-
larly will help counteract the long-
term effects of substances that
damage the paint, especially if
your motorcycle is ridden in ar-
eas with high air pollution or nat-
ural sources of dirt, such as tree
resin or pollen.
However, remove particularly ag-
gressive substances immediately;
otherwise changes in the paint or
discoloration can occur. These
include spilled fuel, oil, grease
and brake fluid as well as bird
droppings. It is recommended
to use BMW Motorrad solvent
cleaning agent and then apply
BMW Motorrad high gloss polish
to preserve the paint.
Contamination on the paint finish
is particularly easy to see after
the motorcycle has been washed.
Remove this type of soiling im-
mediately with cleaning benzene
or spirit on a clean cloth or cot-
ton ball. BMW Motorrad recom-
mends removing tar stains with
BMW tar remover. Then add
a protective wax coating to the
paint at these locations.
Paint preservation
Apply a preservative when water
fails to bead up on the painted
surface.
BMW Motorrad recommends
BMW Motorrad high gloss polish
or agents that contain carnauba
or synthetic wax for paint preser-
vation.
Storing the motorcycle
Clean motorcycle.
Completely fill the motorcycle's
fuel tank.
Removing the battery (
171).
Spray brake lever and clutch
lever as well as center and side
stand pivots with a suitable lu-
bricant.
Preserve bare metal and
chrome-plated parts with an
acid-free grease (petroleum
jelly).
