Have the brakes checked by a
specialist workshop, preferably
an authorized BMW Motorrad
retailer.
Checking the front brake
pad thickness
Park motorcycle. Ensure that
the ground is firm and level.
Turn handlebars.
Visually inspect left and right
brake pads to determine their
thickness. Direction of view:
from front, looking at brake
pads

min 0.04 in (min 1.0 mm)
(Only friction material without
carrier plate. The wear marks
(grooves) must be clearly visi-
ble.)
If brake pads are worn:
WARNING
Dropping below the minimum
pad thickness
Reduced braking action, damage
to the brake
In order to ensure the operat-
ing reliability of the brake sys-
tem, make sure that the brake
pads are not worn beyond their
minimum thickness.
Have brake pads renewed at a
specialist workshop, preferably
an authorized BMW Motorrad
retailer.
If genuine BMW Motorrad
brake pads are not installed,
be sure to check thickness of
brake pad carrier plate.
WARNING
Use of unsuitable brake pads
Failure of the brake system due
to loss of the brake pads
Use only brake pads with a suf-
ficient thickness of the brake
pad carrier plate.
BMW Motorrad recommends
installing only genuine
BMW Motorrad brake pads.
