ABS Pro
ABS Pro increases safety, in
particular when braking in
corners. ABS Pro prevents the
wheels from locking up even if
the brakes are actuated quickly.
ABS Pro reduces abrupt
changes in steering forces,
especially during shock braking,
and therefore decreases the
risk of an undesirable "rearing
up" of the vehicle.
ABS control
From a technical standpoint,
ABS Pro adjusts the ABS con-
trol to the angle of inclination
of the vehicle in dependence
on the respective riding situ-
ation. Signals for the roll and
yaw rate and the lateral accel-
eration are used to determine
the inclination of the vehicle.
The signals come from the an-
gular rate sensor, which is al-
ready used for Dynamic Trac-
tion Control DTC.
With an increasing angle, the
brake pressure gradient is in-
creasingly limited at the start
of braking. This results in a
slower pressure buildup. In ad-
dition, the pressure modulation
in the range of the ABS control
is more uniform.
Advantages for the rider
The advantages of ABS Pro for
the rider are sensitive response
and high braking and riding
stability with the best possible
deceleration, even in curves.
ABS Pro is activated in
the
RAIN
,
ROAD
and
DYNAMIC
riding modes.
DYNAMIC TRACTION CON-
TROL (DTC)
How does traction control
work?
The traction control compares
the wheel circumferential ve-
locities of the front and rear
wheels. The slip, and with it
the stability reserves at the rear
wheel, are determined from
the speed difference. The en-
gine control adapts the engine
torque when the slip limit is ex-
ceeded.
BMW Motorrad DTC is de-
signed as an assistance sys-
tem for the rider and for riding
on public roads. The extent to
which the rider affects DTC
control can be considerable
(weight shifts when cornering,
loose luggage on the motorcy-
cle), especially when approach-
ing the limits imposed by the
laws of physics.
