RIDING
Shiftpoint light
The shiftpoint light
1
signals to
the rider that the engine speed
is approaching the RPM at
which the rider needs to shift
to the next highest gear.
Shiftpoint light blinks at the
preset frequency: The shifting
speed will soon be reached
Shiftpoint light goes out:
Shifting speed reached
The speed thresholds and the
behavior of the shiftpoint light
can be adjusted in the

BRAKES
How do you achieve the
shortest braking distance?
The dynamic load distribution
between the front and rear
wheel changes during brak-
ing. The more pressure you
apply to the brake, the greater
the weight transfer to the front
wheel. Increases in the load on
an individual wheel are accom-
panied by a rise in the effective
brake force that the wheel can
provide.
To optimize the stopping dis-
tance, apply the front wheel
brake rapidly and continue to
increase the force. This proce-
dure provides ideal utilization
of the dynamic load increase
to the front wheel. The clutch
should also be engaged at the
same time.
Locking up of the front wheel
is prevented by BMW Motorrad
ABS.
With the frequently instructed
"emergency braking," in which
the brake pressure is gener-
ated as quickly as possible and
with great force, dynamic load
distribution lags behind the
progressive increases in de-
celeration rate and the brak-
ing force cannot be completely
transferred to the road. Due
to the missing wheel load, the
ABS must prevent a tendency
of the front wheel to lock up
with even minimal braking ef-
fect. This results in a reduced
braking effect.
