control unit does not enable an
engine start until the ignition key
has been recognized as "autho-
rized" for your motorcycle.
NOTICE
An additional ignition key at-
tached to the same ring as the
ignition key / radio-operated key
used to start the engine could
"irritate" the electronics, in which
case the enabling signal for an
engine start is not issued.
Always store further vehicle keys
separately from the ignition key /
radio-operated key.
If you lose an ignition key, you
can have it disabled by your
BMW Motorrad retailer. When
having an ignition key disabled
you should also bring all of the
motorcycle's remaining keys with
you.
The engine can no longer be
started using a disabled ignition
key; however, a disabled ignition
key can be enabled again.
Spare keys are available
only through an authorized
BMW Motorrad retailer. The
keys are part of an integrated
safety system, so the retailer is
under an obligation to check the
legitimacy of all applications for
replacement/extra ignition keys.
