BX1504 Installation Instruction
1997-00 Buick Park Avenue
To install the baseplate it is necessary to remove the bumper molding. Holes need to be drilled and the lower belly pan
needs to be trimmed to give way for the baseplate braces. The attachment tabs will extend through the grill opening ap-
proximately four inches.
1. Remove the screws located directly in front of the tires fastening the fender well molding to the bumper molding.
There are two screws on each side of the vehicle. Pull the plastic back and remove the two inside bolts (10mm) that
hold the quarter panels to the bumper molding.
2. Remove the lower plastic rock guard directly behind the bumper molding. There are six push pins that hold the guard
to the car. Now the bumper can be remove from the car.
3. Find the center of the aluminum bumper. Hold the baseplate up to the bottom side of the bumper (at its center) and
clamp it to the frame. Drill the center hole and bolt the
baseplate to the bumper using the 1/2 x 1 1/2 bolts. Be
sure the baseplate is square and drill the remaining out-
side holes. Bolt the baseplate to these holes using the
same hardware. Be sure to use Loctite Red on each bolt
to ensure they will not loosen while the vehicle is being
towed.
4. Notice the main frame directly behind the baseplate and
bumper. The four braces included with the kit will fasten to
the baseplate and extend back to the frame of the ve-
hicle. The two short braces go on the outside and the long
braces is for the center. Use the 1/2 x 1 1/2 bolts with nuts
and lock washer for bolting the braces to the baseplate.
Do not tighten completely. Hold the braces to the frame as
shown in the diagram and drill 1/2 inch holes. Using the 1
1/4 inch bolts with the 1/2 inch nuts and washers, bolt the
outside braces to the frame. Again use Loctite on each
bolt and tighten.
NOTE: Do not bolt the center brace to the frame. It will be easier to fasten the lower plastic belly pan.
5. Replace the bumper molding. Trim the lower belly pan so it
fits around the braces. Cut a notch in the center and outside
edges of the belly pan and slide it over the center brace
instead. The center push pin will not be used.
6. Bolt the center brace to the frame of the car using the hard-
ware used with the outside braces.
7. Install the tow bar and safety cables according to the instruc-
tions included in their packages.
8. Do not substitute other devices if the two bar pins and clips
are lost.
9. DEALER OR INSTALLER: BE CERTAIN THE USER RE-
CEIVES THE INSTRUCTION SHEET.
