BlackBerry Wireless Handheld
Getting started
Home screen - Turn Wireless On icon
The
Turn Wireless On
icon is represented by an antenna, but when
you click the icon, the application name changes to
Turn Wireless
Off
and the icon changes to an airplane. The airplane icon is a
reminder to turn off your handheld radio when you are on an
airplane, in a hospital, or in any place in which your handheld
might interfere with other radio transmissions and frequencies.
Registering with the BlackBerry
wireless network
If your handheld is activated on your service provider’s wireless
network and you turn on the wireless radio, a registration message
should arrive. In the rare case that the registration message does not
arrive, check the wireless coverage indicator on the
Home
screen to
verify that you are in an area of sufficient wireless coverage for
receiving email messages. You can receive email messages and
phone calls if
1X
and one or more bars appear with the wireless
coverage indicator in the upper right corner of the Home screen.
Note:
You should turn off your handheld radio if you are going to be out
of a wireless coverage area for an extended period of time. Turning off
the radio conserves battery life.
