Asynchronous, full or
half-duplex operation.

Provides transformer
isolation and surge
protection.

Data rates up to
19.2 kbps.

Use in point-to-point
or multipoint
environments.

Transmission range up
to 2.2 miles (3.5 km).

Select DTE, DCE, or
printer support mode.

No AC power required.

RJ-11 models have an
LED indicator for
carrier detection.

U

se the Miniature Short-Haul
Modem NPR for connecting full

or half-duplex asynchronous
DTEs to DTEs operating over
unconditioned 4-wire lines. This
short-haul modem ensures
integrity of data transmission for
distances up to 2.2 miles (3.5 km),
depending on wire gauge and
data rate. (Reach 2.2 miles
[3.5 km] at 9600 bps or 1 mile
[1.6 km] at 19.2 kbps—in both
cases, over 24 AWG wire.)

What makes these modems

stand apart from the crowd is that
they offer surge protection and
transformer isolation. Surge
protection guards your equipment

This tiny modem plugs directly

into an async DTE’s DB25 port.

Key Features

MINIATURE SHORT-HAUL MODEM NPR

from damage caused by surges,
brownouts, or spikes in electricity.
Isolation transformers protect
against AC or DC overvoltages.

The modems also have an

internal filter that provides high
noise immunity by reducing
radiated and conducted
interference.

You can even connect DCEs

or printers to the modem. The
modem has a 3-position slide
switch that selects DTE, DCE, or
printer support mode.

The modem requires no

external power since it uses
power from the interface’s data
and control signals.

Clear, crisp, communication is

provided, with minimal crosstalk.

Models are available with

RJ-11 or RJ-45 connectors and
DB25 male or female connectors.
Plus, all models also have a
5-screw terminal block connec-
tor. The RJ-11 models have an
LED that indicates Carrier Detect
(CD).

Two point-to-point applica-

tions are common: PC to PC and
PC to printer. Or, create a multi-
point configuration to connect
one computer to a several PCs
(see the diagram on the next
page). You’ll need one modem for
each attached device.
