iCompel Data Engine - User Guide (V3.1.2)
5. Deployment Considerations
The following topics discuss various deployment considerations.
5.1 Deploying to a Black Box Channel
iCompel Data Engine (iDE) media can be included and distributed as part of a Black Box Channel.
There are three approaches to achieve this:
a. iDE media is deployed on the
Publisher
only, and is referenced by
Playlist items
within a Publisher
Channel
. The Channel Publishing and Subscription process ensures all
Subscribers
show
exactly
the
same media. The iCompel Data Engine writes results to the Publisher only, and these results will be shown
on the subscriber only after the channel has been published, and the subscriber/s have polled and updated
their channel content.
b. Media is deployed as above, however Subscribers show specific content based on
Subscriber
defined
Local
Information
values. Items of media should be set to play only when specific Player Local Information values
are defined. A typical use for this scenario would be showing a local weather report. The iDE media
deployed to the Publisher must contain all required data values, and special media to extract and correctly
process Local Information values. This is more flexible, but has the same restrictions and trade-offs as
above.
c. iDE media is deployed to an
Ad hoc folder
media on each Player (Subscriber or Publisher) within a
Channel. Using this approach, completely different media can be shown on each Player. This media is
remembered after Channel updates, but media updates must be copied manually when needed.
5.2 File Organization for Channel or Layout Package Use
To include XML and some types of Presentation Format media in a Channel or Layout Package the following
prerequisites must be met:
An HTML or Flash file which renders the content must be added to a Playlist.
If a subfolder called
xxx_files
(where
xxx
is the filename above) is found in the same folder as the above file,
then all files in this folder will be included in the Channel or Layout Package.
For example, if the file
dynamic_media.html
was added to the Playlist, then all files in the subfolder
dynamic_media_files
(if found) would be automatically included.
To include the XML (or Presentation Format) query results file it must be deployed to the
xxx_files
folder, and not
the folder containing the HTML or Flash file.
