DENSIMAT is designed to measure the optical density of a bacterial inoculum
produced in an ampoule of liquid medium.
It gives values in McFarland units, proportional to the average values of
bacterial concentrations obtained with Gram-negative rods isolated from clinical
specimens.
Only

ampoules should be used as they undergo quality control
tests.
Measurement of the density can be performed in an ampoule of distilled water
(Suspension Medium), saline solution (NaCl 0.85% Medium), or in the liquid
media included with the strips:
API 20 A Medium, API STAPH Medium, API 50 CH Medium, API 50 CHB
Medium, API 50 CHL Medium, API 50 CHE Medium, ATB PBS .
DENSIMAT Is designed for use in laboratories by specially trained
technologists.
