WARNING
membrane can reach the end position very quickly and pause in the respective
end position. This can increase the risk of the formation of deposits.
3. By default, the parameter
Duration systole
is set to 50 %. If changes to
Filling
and
Emptying
result in the system no longer being able to completely fill or empty
the blood pumps, change the systolic duration. Lowering the systolic duration can
improve filling; raising the systolic duration will improve emptying.
8.6.5.3 Piston Stroke and Mean Driving Pressure
Piston stroke
- what percentage of the possible stroke is utilized in [%]
Average driving pressure
- Mean of the driving and suction pressures in [mmHg]
Values for the piston stroke and the mean driving pressure cannot be set directly.
They are set indirectly using the
F
ILING
(++ +)
and
E
MPTYING

buttons. The
closed loop control first adjusts the piston stroke and then regulates the mean driving
pressure.
8.6.5.4 Optimizing Filling and Emptying
To prevent incorrect settings:
Before adjusting settings, make sure that support via the driving tube -
blood pump - cannula is not interrupted. While adjusting settings, make
sure that the degree of patient activity remains constant. After settings
have been selected, wait until the system has adjusted, then check
whether the settings allow the blood pumps to fill and empty
completely.
In its default setting and after a reset, the driving unit is configured so that the blood
pump fills and empties almost completely at rates between 20 and 60 bpm and an af-
terload of 70 mmHg. Minor corrections might be necessary.
At higher rates or at a higher afterload, the filling behavior must be manually adjusted.
The afterload increases with physically active patients. Configure the blood pumps in
such a manner that they also fill and empty completely for the activity level that is ex-
pected.
Configure initial settings while the patient is lying down. In the course of mobilization,
conduct gradual adjustments.
1.
Baseline situation:
The blood pump is connected, de-aired, and has been
started. The driving unit is connected to the panel PC and the user is logged
in.
Goal:
The blood pump fills and empties completely. The membrane is
crease-free in its end position.
2.
Check whether the cannulae and driving tube are kink-free and not exposed
to mechanical strain. Mechanical strain could result in faulty settings.
3.
Observe the membrane movement on the air side of the blood pump. If the
membrane is not crease-free in its end position, this must be corrected.
