E911 Partition
6
As a building can be partitioned into different floors or different areas on one
floor, the extensions in the MERLIN MAGIX system can be grouped
(“partitioned”) according to their locations. For example, you can place all the
extensions in the northeast corner of the second floor of an office building in
one partition and all the extensions in the northwest corner in a second
partition. You then assign some trunks with an ALI of the northeast corner of
the second floor to the first partition. Next, you assign trunks with an ALI of the
northwest corner of the second floor to the second partition. When a caller dials
“911,” the ALI information sent shows the emergency response people exactly
where the caller is located.
MERLIN MAGIX Release 1.5 supports us to 10 partitions. When you select
E911 Partition, all the extensions and adjuncts in the system are automatically
assigned to Partition 1.
An extension can belong to only one partition. If an extension already belongs
to one partition but the System Manager wants to assign it to another partition,
the extension is automatically first removed from its original partition and then
assigned to the new partition.
Ground-start (recommended) or loop-start trunks can be assigned to an E911
partition. Ground-start trunks assigned to an E911 partition must be connected
to a 408 GS/LS-ID-MLX module with upgradeable firmware Release 3.2 or to a
800 GS/LS-ID module with upgradeable firmware Release 1.4.
You must update the partition trunk’s ALI to identify the location of the
extensions in a partition.
If you do not select either E911 option (Partition or E911 Adjunct), all
911 calls are routed through the main pool.
