Searching the Consensus for Specific Bases
To search for a specific base or contiguous multiple bases, click on the
Consensus
Text Search
radio button and enter the bases in the text box.
To search for the exact match for text, check the
Exact Match
check box. Use the
forward and back arrow buttons or press the
Ctrl
and
arrow
(
←, →
) keys to search
backwards and forwards though the base sequence for more text searches.
To search for a base without requiring an exact match, uncheck the
Exact Match
check box. The searching result will be all exact matches as well as all IUB codes with
an overlapping base. That is, a search for the ambiguity code
K
will not only result in
the bases
G
or
T
, but will also result in any ambiguity code that contains
G
or
T
. In fact,
the search would stop on all ambiguity codes other than
M
. (The bases represented by
M
are
A
and
C
). Also, searching for an A, C, G or T will match any ambiguity codes
containing the base. For example, searching for
A
will result in any ambiguity code
containing
A
(specifically, M, R, W, U, H, D, N).
Editing the Consensus
You may edit the base selected by the search by typing the desired base, or by clicking
on the
Edit
menu, then on
Replace
, and then selecting the desired base or ambiguity
code. You may also automatically jump to the next base that matches your search
criteria once you have completed the edit by selecting Forward or Backward on the
Edit tab of the Preferences dialog box.
