Customising the General Settings on Your NOOK
Opening the General Settings Screen
The General settings screen on your NOOK offers controls for turning PowerSave Mode on and off, customising the
dictionary in your NOOK, adjusting the volume of features like music and alarms, and making other configuration
changes to your NOOK.
To open the General settings screen, do this:
1. Tap the gear icon in the Status Bar to open the Quick Settings window.
2. In the Quick Settings window, tap the
All Settings
menu choice.
3. On the main Settings screen, tap
General
in the lefthand navigation bar.
Your NOOK opens the General settings screen.
Turning PowerSave Mode On or Off
Your NOOK features a PowerSave Mode that fine-tunes your NOOK’s performance to save power and extend its
battery charge.
To turn on PowerSave Mode, do this:
1. Open the General settings screen by tapping the
General
menu choice on the All Settings screen.
2. Find the BATTERY LIFE section of the scrollable panel on the right. Tap the
PowerSave Mode
toggle switch so it
reads ON.
Your NOOK adjusts the brightness of the screen and other settings in order to prolong the life of the battery.
Configuring the Screen
Locking the Rotation of the Screen
To lock the screen in its current orientation, do this:
1. Open the General settings screen by tapping the
General
menu choice on the All Settings screen.
2. Hold your NOOK in the orientation you want: portrait or landscape.
3. Find the SCREEN section of the scrollable panel on the right. Tap the
Lock Rotation
toggle switch so it reads ON.
To unlock the screen rotation, return to this toggle switch and tap it so that it reads OFF.
NOTE: Some content such as NOOK Children’s Books always appears in landscape mode regardless of
whether or not the screen is locked in portrait mode.
Adjusting the Brightness of the Screen
Like the Quick Settings window, the General settings screen includes a slider for adjusting the brightness of the
screen. To make the screen brighter, drag the slider to the right. To make it dimmer, drag the slider to the left. Your
adjustment takes effect right away.
